WebDec 31, 2014 · My old Remington however, liked everything. I wanted to build a consistant 200 yard muzzleloader with as little drop as possible. Here's where I ended up. I've landed on the Barnes TMZ 290 gr ballistic tip, pushed by 150 gr of loose 777. I'm 2-1/2" high at 100 yds, 3-1/4" low at 200 yards. That's a 6" difference in 100 to 200 yards roughly. My .54 loaded with 115 grains of 2Fg Goex and 235 gr roundball sighted in at 25 yards 1" high prints just a little high at 50. At 100 about 4" low, at 150 8" low. This is with open sights about 3/8 high.

With a 100 yard zero, you should be hitting the target .75 inches high @ 50 yards and just a hair below bullseye @ 25 yards and 4 inches low @ 150 yards. The limiting factor here is the cartridge and its power. If you miss the target at shorter range — say by a half-inch — you will be much further off at longer range. WebYou simply pick a distance and sight the rifle for the proper spot in relation to the line of sight. If you elect to use 50 yards, for instance, you carefully sight the rifle in to hit 1.88" high at 50 yards. All other points in the trajectory will fall in line, and the rifle will be properly sighted for 25, 75 and 100 yards, also.
